MALTECO
Malteco rum is an Italian creation, born from the imagination of Marco Savio, already at the origin of Malecon Rum. Its story is rather atypical, because its creator had to face some obstacles to complete his project.
Initially, it was distilled in Guatemala , at the Licoreria Quetzalteca. But when the Diageo group took over the distillery in 2011, it decided to devote all of its production to its two flagship brands: Botran and Zacapa .
Mr Salvio was therefore forced to move his production to Panama , in the same place as Malecon Rum, within the Caribbean Spirits Panama Distillery. With the help of Guatemalan “Maestros Roneros”, he still managed to keep the style of rums from Guatemala, hence the words “Ron al estilo de Guatemala” which appears on the bottles.
